Castillo de Santa Bárbara on the Monte Benacantil
You can see it from the beach, the Castle de Santa Bárbara on Benacantil Mountain. Even the hike up to the castle is beautiful, and the building itself is worth a visit.
For the less sporty: There is also a cheap lift that takes visitors up to the castle. Once at the top, you look out over the whole city and the surrounding countryside – what a view! The Castillo also offers various exhibitions that focus on the history of the castle.
Coffee, tapas and regional wines
Did the “climb” of Monte Benacantil make you hungry? Then take a look in the centre of Alicante to see what the city has to offer in the way of delicacies. The countless restaurants offer typical Spanish tapas and super tasty wines from the region. For coffee lover, “Madness Coffee” offers hot specialities. Keep an eye on the clock – because many Spaniards still keep it very precise with the important siësta, the lunch break, and allow themselves to close their shops between 1 and 4 pm.
On the other hand, the evenings are getting later: Spaniards usually eat between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. – especially in summer, when it´s hotter during the day.
Sporty on the road by bike
Cycling is the best way to explore Alicante – in summer as well as in the winter months. Bike rental stations such as Blue Bike offer electric bikes and regular bikes for rent by the hour or day. Pedal towards Palmeral, where you can take a short break in the shady park and at a great waterfall and cuddle the park’s resident cats. And towards Playa de San Juan, you’ll find a great beach to relax on.
